Entergy Plans to Build $216 Million power plant in New Orleans

New Orleans, LA -- Entergy is asking the New Orleans City Council to approve a plan to build a $216 million power plant.

Entergy New Orleans filed an application to approve a "new, modern power plant" at the former site of Michoud Plant.  Michoud Plant was shut down June 1, eliminating the only source of electric power generation within the city limits.

The plan is to build a natural gas power plant to support future electricity needs.  However, opponants are arguing for energy to be brought to the city using solar or other renewable sources.
