Peabody, MA -- Firefighters in Peabody worked to contain a fire at a Styrofoam manufacturing plant that burned all day and all night.
The flames broke out at 3:30pm and continued to burn through the day and into the night. Operations Director Jeff Wolfe said there were 50 people inside the building when the fire started. Firefighters are reporting that everyone who was inside the building evacuated and is accounted for.
"I was in the front office and the fire alarm went off and at that point we initiated our emergency procedures, got our people out quickly and safely, and the fire department took over from there," Wolfe said.
"We certainly didn't want to have any long term injuries to any firefighters so we fought the fire from the exterior and we had everybody put on their full gear with self-contained breathing apparatus," said Fire Chief Steven Pasdon.
As of Wednesday morning, no one was allowed in the building because the roof collapsed and there was extensive damage. The cause of the fire is unknown.
