Houston, TX -- Exxon Mobil is investigating the release of chemicals that were released at a petrochemical complex in Houston.
For several hours, residents near Exxon Mobil were asked to stay in their homes when a release was reported. Later that afternoon, Baytown authorities lifted the shelter in place.
Exxon Mobil released a statement saying it shut down two chemical product pipelines that carry diluted propylene to investigate the release.
The company is "working with local emergency responders and closely with local officials to ensure the safety of the public."
The cause of the release is not known.
