TORONTO - Emergency crews have recovered the body of a man who died after being trapped under a piece of concrete at a construction site Tuesday.
The incident happened just before noon on Clayson Road near Highway 401 and Highway 400.
The unidentified man, employed by Rabcon Contractors Limited, was working to install sewer service connections for a nearby industrial building when he fell into a large trench and became trapped under a concrete slab.
Toronto Fire Services tried to rescue the man but mud surrounding the trench made rescue efforts too dangerous.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The City of Toronto, who had contracted Rabcon for work in the area, issued a statement offering "its sincere condolences to the family and colleagues."
The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
