Transformer Fire Contained at Cecil County Power Plant

On Wednesday, a transformer fire ignited, emergency officials confirmed.

The fire started at the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative facility.  The facility was under construction at the time.

Officials reported that 22,000 pounds of mineral oil was inside the transformer and caught fire.  The fire ignited inside a fire suppression vessel, which contained it.  No flames could be seen, but black smoke billowed into the air.

The facility was evacuated, but no injuries took place.  There is also no hazardous material threat to the public.
