BAGDAD, Ariz. -- A 30-year-old man was killed during a construction accident at the Bagdad Mine on Thursday afternoon.
Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says Alvin Thomas was part of a crew working on putting a row of large pipes together when one of the pipes came loose and hit him in the back of the head.
The pipe was 40 feet long, 6 feet wide and weighed over 5000 pounds.
Firefighters arrived within minutes, but Thomas was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Thomas, of Many Farms, was a contract worker with the Freeport-McMoran Copper and Gold Mine in Bagdad, Ariz.
