PORT ARTHUR, Texas - Several workers were injured after a fire broke out early Saturday morning at the Chevron Phillips' chemical plant in Port Arthur, company officials said.
According to a statement from company officials, the fire started at about 4 a.m. and was extinguished shortly after.
Several contract employees were taken by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries, officials said.
A contractor who works at the plant said that about seven ambulances responded to the scene.
"We regret very much that this event has occurred, and our thoughts are with the injured. Please bear with us as we assemble our response team and collect more information on this incident," said Margie Conway, plant manager for Chevron Phillips Chemical's Port Arthur plant.
Company officials said that they mobilized a team of trained emergency response professionals who are working to secure the facility and assess the damages. Official added that the incident had no impact on the community.
