SEWARD, Ill. (AP) - Residents evacuated from the tiny northern Illinois town of Seward after a chemical plant fire are returning home.
Local fire officials gave the all-clear Monday afternoon, after tests determined that the air quality was safe.
Officials at Nova-Kem say a valve malfunction might have caused Sunday's explosion and fire that destroyed the company's manufacturing facility. A final determination will be made after an investigation is completed.
One employee was treated for minor injuries.
The company manufactures a chemical used in the production of memory chips used in electronic devices
The explosion and fire prompted officials to evacuate residents within a 2-mile radius of the plant. Seward is a town of about 300 located 18 miles west of Rockford.
