PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - Firefighters are working to figure out what sparked a fire at a Portage manufacturing plant overnight.
Officials told 24 Hour News 8 that they got a call about a fire at Bowers Manufacturing, located on Sprinkle Road near Romence road at around 1 a.m.
According to officials, a compactor attached to the plant caught on fire and because of the narrow opening into the compactor, fire crews were unable to put the fire out until a heavy-duty wrecker was called in to pull the compactor away from the building.
Firefighters put out the fire just before 4 a.m. Saturday.
