REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- Firefighters have contained a blaze at the Sims Metal Management Yard in Redwood City on Seaport Boulevard.
The fire started in a pile of appliances and smoke is moving in a southerly direction. Residents who smell smoke are being advised to stay inside with doors and windows closed to avoid exposure. Fire personnel are expected to be on scene for several hours.
This is the second time in five weeks a fire has burned at the plant; this fire is smaller than the previous blaze. The previous fire forced San Mateo, Alameda and Santa Clara counties to issue a health advisory because of all the stubborn smoke. It took crews 19 hours to put out the fire at that time.
