Gas Explosion at ArcelorMittal Plant

Emergency responders and firefighters responded to a Sunday fire and gas explosion that destroyed a building at the ArcelorMittal steel plant in Steelton.  No one was injured.

A gas leak, which is still under investigation, started in a small building that is used partly as a washroom.  The fire and subsiquent explosion brought 90 firefighters to the scene.

The plant was originally established in 1867 and was formerly known as the Bethlehem Steel Corp.

No information on fire protection in the building was provided.
