When a fire broke out at the Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant, an employee extinguished it with a handheld fire extinguisher.

The fire broke out in the insulation for an emergency diesel generator.  The generator was being tested at the time the fire occured.

No one was injured and the fire was contained to the area around the diesel engine.  The plant has four emergency diesel generators for generating necessary power for certain equipment if the plant lost power.

The plant has been in a planned shutdown since mid-February for refueling and maintenance.  It is during planned shutdowns that many plant fires occur.
