Firefighters in McMinnville, OR spent two hours battling a fire at the Purina Mills Dog Food Plant on Monday.

Fire crews were alerted around 6:45am when smoke was seen billowing from the top of the production plant.  By 8:45am, 12 responding fire units had put out the fire and cleared the scene.

The fire is believed to have started from an equipment malfunction in the plant's basement where a rolling mill cooler caused sparks, which caught grain product on fire.

Several fires started as a result of the malfunction and hot spots cropped up from the fire.  Damage was limited to the machinery, but an estimated loss has not been reported.

Fire protection has not been reported at this time.  No injuries have been reported yet.
