New U.S. Power Plants in July Entirely Renewable

In July, the U.S. saw 100% renewable resource electrical power plants come online, exclusively.  All of the 405 MW of electrical generation were generated through wind, solar, or water.

The vast majority of the electrical generation was from wind, at 379 MW.  21 MW was derived from solar and 5 MW from water. 

"This is not the first time in recent years that all new electrical generating capacity for a given month has come from renewable energy sources.  And it is likely to become an ever more frequent occurance in the months and years ahead," said Ken Bossong, Executive Director of the Sun Day campaign.

July is an outlier.  Natural gas power plants have been popular this year as well.  There have been 20 that have gone online in 2014, so far.
