New Hanover County, NC -- A small fire started in a turbine at the Sutton Combined Cycle Plant, but was quickly extinguished with their F.E. Moran Special Hazard Systems' installed and designed Co2 fire suppression system.

The fire call came in at 2am, when a plant worker discovered heat levels rising in one of the plant's turbine compartments.  Fifty firefighters showed up at the scene, police officers, and an EMS crew.

The Duke Energy spokesman reported that the fire extinguishing system went off and contained the fire before fire crews arrived.

The fire started when a diesel fuel line broke and got fuel on an insulation blanket.  The equipment acted as an ignition source and started the fire.

F.E. Moran Special Hazard Systems is proud to have been a part of the Co2 system that activated quickly and contained the fire, minimizing damage.
