Weyers Cave -- An employee was injured in a small chemical explosion at the chemical storage plant Degesch America, Inc.
The employee was removing the top of a seven gallon metal container when the built up pressure caused the top to blow off and injure his arm. The incident happened last Thursday afternoon.
The explosions happened because a peticide packet inside the container had a defect. It was not entirely closed and activated when moisture from the air touched it. It released chemicals, and pressurized the container.
The employee was transported to Augusta Health with minor injuries.
