Dahej -- A massive fire ignited at a chemical plant on Tuesday morning.  Approximately, 1,500 people had to be evacuated.

There were no casualties in the fire.  However, panic spread into the villages as news went around.  A thick plume of smoke billowed in the air and the fire could be seen for miles.

The Deputy Director of Safety, Health, and Environment A S Gandhi said, "There have been no deaths or injuries in the fire.  The fire broke out in the material storage area of the plant.  Various solvents including methanol ethylene oxide were stored there.  Firefighters and the disaster management prevention center team are trying hard to safeguard the ethylene oxide tanks as the chemical is explosive in nature."
