Amarillo, TX -- On Wednesday, a fire broke out in a cooling tower at an Texas Xcel power plant.
At 9am, a fire was reported at a coal-fired power plant within a cooling tower. In under an hour, it was reported to be contained.
"They are in the process of containing it. Unit 1 is still operating, but they are bringing it down. It's about half (power) load right now. I don't know if we are going to bring it all the way offline or not. Units 2 and 3 are still running. It doesn't pose any reliability issues for customers at this point," said Wes Reeves, Xcel Energy Spokesman.
The fire is not expected to cause any power issues. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
