Beijing, China -- 30,000 people were evacuated near a Chinese chemical plant when a major fire erupted. The fire blazed on for 50 hours before it was extinguished.
The fire erupted at a plant that produces a chemical called paraxylene (PX), which is used in synthetic fabrics. Several explosions were heard during the fire.
The fire was finally extinguished Tuesday night, but reignited on Wednesday.
"A total of 29,096 people have been evacuated from the surrounding area," Xinhua news reported. They also reported that the second fire was extinguished Thursday morning.
Six people were injured in the fire.
