Two of F.E. Moran Special Hazard Systems’ projects - Oklahoma Gas & Electric's Sooner Generating Station & Okeechobee Clean Energy won 2018 Year in Construction Contest.

1. Okeechobee Clean Energy Project

Location: Vero Beach, FL

Scope: F.E. Moran Special Hazard Systems worked with Zachry and Florida Power & Light on this project to provide the fire protection needs for the facility. We are providing dry-pipe, wet-pipe, deluge, and preaction fire sprinklers, fire alarm, and detection throughout this facility.

Similar projects we’re working on are Cape Canaveral, Riviera Beach, and Port Everglades.

2. Oklahoma Gas & Electric’s Sooner Generating Station

Location: Red Rocks, OK

Scope: F.E. Moran Special Hazard Systems worked with Black & Veatch, Oklahoma Power Constructors, and PCL Construction to provide fire protection for the Sooner Generating Station.

The project consisted of air quality control systems (AQCS) on two units of the existing coal fired power plant and ten fire protection systems. Additionally, two Class III standpipe systems.

Unit 1 and Unit 2 Reserve Auxiliary Transformer fire protection systems were kept in a fire water valve house furnished by F.E. Moran.

Fire extinguishers were added throughout.

The fire detection system had a spot-type heat detection on four transformers and four lube oil skids. Linear heat detection was provided on the lube oil fans. The AQCS structure was equipped throughout with a spot-type heat detection. We provided hydrogen gas detectors in the battery rooms, photoelectric smoke detectors, and HVAC duct detectors. An air sampling type detection system was provided for the project storage building. A pebble lime storage silo and waste ash silo were provided for each spot type heat detector and carbon monoxide gas detectors.
