New York, NY — On December 28, a transformer exploded at a Queens power plant that had residents concerned. For a short time, no one knew what the flashing, bright lights were and Twitter was buzzing, wondering what the lights were.
The Con Edison plant had a transformer fire that triggered videos being posted of blue lights all over social media.
The fire caused major issues including black outs and flight delays.
The NYPD said the fire was quickly under control.
Mayor Bill de Basio’s office said, “the blue light was caused by an electrical surge at the substation.”
There were no injuries.
