Belgium -- An explosion rocked a nuclear power plant in northern Belgium.  The blast then caused a subsequent fire.

The damage is still being assessed.

The fire started in Reactor 1 of the plant, but personnel were able to extinguish it.  There was no threat to nature.  Luckily, there was no fuel present at the time of the incident.  The reactor had been shut down due to its expired operational license.

The explosion could have had disastrous effects.  The Doel Nuclear Power Station is in the most densely populated area with 9 millions people living within 75 km of the station.  Read the whole story here.
