Crews from several towns fight fire at Springfield power plant

Springfield, NH -- A fire broke out at Springfield Power Plant on Tuesday in a silo, and required fire crews from multiple towns to assist in fighting the fire.

When the fire crews arrived, they discovered that the fire had ignited in machinery on the fifth floor right around 4pm.  Heavy smoke and dangerous conditions made fighting the fire difficult.  Crews worked hard to fight the fire before it could spread to the wood pellets in the silo.

"It was actually in the conveyor that goes up to feed the boiler, so it was all contained to that, so there was no  threat there.  It was the heat and the warm temperatures that was rough on the guys," said Chief Pete Lacaillade.

Several firefighters were injured and needed to be treated for heat exhaustion.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Read full story here.
