To meet environmental regulations on wastewater treatment in China, coal-to-chemical plants will be using General Electric's new technology - advanced zero liquid discharge (ZLD).

GE's ZLD evaporator and crystallizer system eliminates liquid discharge of waste.  It allows for water reuse in coal-to-chemical plants.

ZLD's are growing in popularity as countries begin to enforce environmental regulations more strictly.  GE has stated that the ZLD project at Shaanxi Future Energy Chemical is the sixth that the company has completed in China recently.

Coal provides the majority of China's electricity.  Coal is also converted to chemicals such as petroleum.  Under China's new regulations, the Water Pollution Action Plan, plants must eliminate the liquid discharge of wastewater into the environment.  A ZLD system must be installed for plants to get permits now.
