Fire Breaks out at Power Plant

Salem, MA -- A small fire broke out on the third floor of an old power plant that was undergoing demolition.

At 5:53pm, the Salem Fire Department was called to the scene.  According to Fire Captain Scott Austin, trash and boxes had caught fire during demolition.

"There was trash left in there, something must have got it going.  We went down there just to wet it down -- [the contractors] were already putting water on it," said Austin.

The fire didn't get a chance to grow, but was tricky to fight because firefighters couldn't go in the building.  They had to attack it from above, using a truck's tower ladder.

Firefighters cleared the scene in an hour.  Demo is set to resume on Monday.
