Richmond Power Plant Explosion Causes Train Delay

Richmond, Australia -- Smoke was billowing from a Richmond Power Plant after an explosion on Tuesday.

Residents and shoppers in the suburb were shocked to hear a loud bang as the transformer became engulfed in fire.  The fire brigade arrived to the blaze at 4:10pm.

"There is a lot of smoke, some fire, and a big bang," said a Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman.

Firefighters were forced to wait to fight the fire until after electrical experts isolated the power to the transformer.  Once the power was isolated, the fire was extinguished around 5pm.

Metro trains had major delays because of the power surge.

There were no injuries.
