Why There is a Push for More Women in Construction | The Moran Group

Los Angeles, CA -- The metro is looking for women to join in their construction projects to help them meet the recommended 6.9% women quota.

The Metro currently has five projects under construction and thousands of jobs to fill.  They are actively recruiting women to join their construction crews as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, operating engineers, and more.

While the Metro doesn't build anything themselves, project labor agreements with their contractors specify that 6.9% of their workers should be women.  This is difficult since 97% of the construction workforce is men.  This number has remained the same since 1984.

The federal rules for 6.9% women are only guidelines, but, by following the guidelines, the Metro would get opportunities for future federal grants.
