Jersey City, NJ -- A man who was delivering construction materials was killed when a tape measure fell 50 stories and hit him on the head.
The 1-lb tape measure fell off of a construction worker's belt on the fiftieth floor. It struck construction equipment 10-15 feet from the ground and then ricocheted and struck Gary Anderson, 58.
Anderson was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.
"He was a very good worker. He's been with us for a long time," said George Hildebrandt, a co-worker.
Workers were temporarily cleared out after the accident.
A construction worker on site said, "You don't work in this environment without a hard hat." He added, "He paid the price. You gotta have it."
