Pokemon Go and construction

Construction sites have seen a surge of media attention lately - why?  Because of Pokemon Go, the augmented reality app.  Are your employees participating?  Here are some workplace safety issues to be careful of when employees are playing Pokemon Go.

First, this is what you need to know about the game.  Players collect Pokeballs to catch monsters.  They go to Pokestops to get these balls and build their strength at Pokegyms.  Pokestops and Pokegyms are in public spaces - which, as the news has shown - can be under construction sometimes.  The media has told the stories of people who have been injured playing this game by not paying attention to their surroundings.  Of, course, employees may also be engaging with this game during downtime - this is what you should be aware of.

1)  You sign up with Pokemon using a Google account.  It came out recently, that the app has access to your emails (although, they say this glitch has been fixed).  If your company uses Google as their email, email server security could be at risk.

2)  The media has shown many occurances where people are not paying attention to their surroundings.  If a construction worker is playing the game while at a site, they can easily step into a hole or other hazard while chasing a Pokemon.

3)  Kids playing Pokemon Go are walking into construction zones because they were marked as Pokestops or they see a Pokemon.  Construction sites should be closed off from outside pedestrians.  Additionally, workers should keep a look out for people who have wandered into a construction site accidentally.

What experiences have you had with Pokemon and construction?
