Northwest Indiana has 14.8% less construction accidents than the national average.
The Northwest Indiana Business Roundtable reviewed data from 40 regional construction companies and 30 million man hours. The data covered man-hours, recordable incidents, days away, and restricted work cases over three years. They found that the local union's safety statistics far surpassed national statistics.
The statistics covered a time period when Northwest Indiana was working on a large BP Whiting construction project (which Moran was involved in). With this huge project, NWI still managed to have outstanding safety statistics.
"These numbers are very significant for all of the hardworking men and women of the Northwest Indiana Union construction industry, and for the Construction Advancement Foundation. We've built some outstanding training programs throughout our region that focus on developing essential skills to keep workers safe on the job, keep productivity high, and reduce losses due to accidents and time away from work," said Jim Aredas, Environmental Safety and Health Director with the CAF.
