Manhattan, NY -- One person was killed and two more were injured when a massive crane collapsed in Tribeca this morning.
The crane toppled onto a row of cars. One person was killed at the scene. A second person was trapped inside a vehicle. The trapped victim was freed by first responders. In addition, two people were transported to Bellvue Hospital.
Witness, Jesse Natale, 26, a civil engineer from New Jersey, said that he was stuck at a light when he saw the crane fall. "If I'd caught that light, I'd be dead, probably."
The massive red crane, which had "Bay Crane" printed on the side, hit a building and leaned on power lines as it fell. A man who answered the phone at Bay Crane refused to answer questions. He said they are not releasing information at this time.
Bay Crane is a 75 year old Long Island City-based crane company.
There are additional reports that a wrecking ball was attached to the crane and fell through the roof of a building; although, that has not been confirmed yet.
