Chattanooga, TN -- Chattanooga Firefighters were called to the scene when a construction worker was injured when concrete fell from beneath him.
The injured man was 56 years old and in serious condition from the fall. He was jackhammering concrete he was standing on and it collapsed beneath him. He was on the second floor, about 25 feet from the ground.
Employees with Wise Construction said they were doing demolition work around 11am to the interior of the structure. The building was being converted to an apartment building.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and removed the victim from the debris. They provided treatment at the scene before rushing him to the hospital.
Battalion Chief Ashley May called for a representative from the city's building inspection office to check on the structural integrity of the building. After an inspection, a stop work notice was issued.
