Man Identified in Construction Site Death

Beaufort -- A construction worker died on Monday morning after falling 40 feet from the roof.

The victim has been identified as Edward Wayne Turner, 42.  He was a subcontractor on the project at the Front Street Village.

"The worker had just accessed the roof and fell off almost immediately.  We are devastated and our hearts go out to the family and all those who knew him," said Bucky Oliver, owner of the Boathouse Marina.

Turner fell through an open portion of the roof that was under construction.  He fell forty feet onto a concrete slab.

"The man was on the roof with other workers when he fell off the roof and landed on a concrete slab 40 feet below.  Until the investigation is complete, it is being treated as a crime scene," said Beaufort Chief of Police Paul Burdette Jr.
