Ypsilanti, MI -- The first floor of a historic building in Michigan collapsed, crushing a construction worker in the basement.
The fire chief reported that there were workers in the basement when the first floor collapsed on them. This happened at 12pm on Monday.
Emergency responders quickly pulled the man out of the basement. He was completely covered in debris. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he died as a result of his injuries.
The building was a former Civil War barracks. It was damaged in a fire in 2009, and is now being converted into retail and loft space. The first floor was set to be demolished at the time of the collapse.
