Construction Students volunteer to renovate food pantry

Coralville, IA -- The Coralville Ecumenical Food Pantry will be moving to a new location, thanks to construction students who will be building it free of charge.

The Coralville City Council agreed to lease the former post office free of charge to the food pantry.  The building, however, was in need of renovations.  That's where the Kirkwood Community College came in.

The Kirkwood Community College has assigned a construction class to work on the building.  The students tore down and rebuilt walls, painted, and will soon install doors.

The instructor for the class, Steve Hanisch, said the hands on work is the best way for the students to learn construction skills.

The pantry should be set to open in July.
