Firefighter injured in recycling plant fire

San Diego, CA -- A fire that was burning at a recycling plant threatened nearby homes.

Flames shot into the air and thick clouds of smoke covered the sky as firefighters fought the recycling plant fire.  California fire crews were called to the fire at 7am.

A nearby resident, Elizabeth Nolasco, said that she witnessed flames shooting into the air when she went to go warn neighbors.  "Got out as soon as possible," Nolasco said.  "We saw everybody else, started banging on their doors, 'Hey, get up, there's a fire.  Nobody was aware of it."

San Diego County Sheriff's Department evacuated four homes.

One firefighter was injured, and carried to an ambulance with injuries to his shoulder and leg.
