Huge Explosion Levels Apartment Complex

UPDATE:  Two people are confirmed dead and five more people are missing.

Silver Springs, MD -- A major gas fed explosion and fire destroyed an apartment complex, and left 100 people homeless.  The explosion was so massive it could be felt a mile away.  Injured residents added up to thirty with no fatalities.  However, a search by a K9 team had a hit, which means someone could be trapped in the rubble.

The explosion caused the evacuation of 100 people.  Some residents needed to throw their children from windows to escape the flames.

"People were dropping children and jumping out of windows.  Everybody was getting out of the building as rapidly as possible," Fire Chief Scott Goldstein said.

The fire and explosion was gas-fed with gas stoves and heating in each unit.  It has not been confirmed that the explosion was from a gas leak, but it did feed the flames.  An investigation is underway to determine the cause.
