Wilmington, DE -- A fire caused $40,000 in damage when a Habitat for Humanity home caught fire. The home had fire sprinklers, but the occupants never hooked up their water supply, according to Wilmington Fire Department spokesman.
WFD Battalion Chief David Hines said, "They found a bedroom and contents on fire and quickly extinguished the fire."
The house did have fire sprinklers, but they did not activate because there was no water source. "The system was designed to get water from the house source and since there was no house source the system could not operate," said Hines.
Steve Spain, Executive Director of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity does not handle utilities once the house is inhabited, so he does not know why there was no water source.
