CBS 2′s Kris Habermehl reports flames were visible from as far as 10 miles away as the fire raged at a large mansion-style home in the 15200 block of 163rd Street in Homer Glen.
The house was gutted by the fire, leaving only a few small wall sections and the stone fireplace and chimney standing.
It was not immediately clear if the house was occupied, but there was construction equipment outside the structure at the time of the blaze.
Firefighters were working defensively to keep the fire under control. There were no other structures nearby, so there was no risk of the flames spreading to another building.
No injuries were reported.
