One person was critically injured in a house fire in north suburban Wilmette early today, the Wilmette fire chief said.

The resident of the home, whose age and sex were not immediately released, was taken to Skokie Hospital in critical condition after being rescued from the fire, Chief James Dominik told WGN-TV.

Firefighters found a "heavy volume of fire" when they arrived at the home in the 200 block of Valley View Drive in the north suburb a little after they were called about 1:10 a.m., Dominik told WGN-TV at the scene of the fire.

The resident was rescued by firefighters and the fire was contained to the inside of the ranch-style home, Dominik said. Information on the cause and approximate cost of damage were not available this morning.
