Elderly Woman Killed in Early Morning Manhattan Apartment Fire

An elderly woman was killed after a fire broke out in her Manhattan apartment early Wednesday, officials said.

The woman, whose name wasn't immediately released, was found with severe burns to her body when firefighters responded to her apartment on Fourth Ave. near Union Square about 12:15 a.m. She died at the scene.

The fire marshal is investigating, but officials said the blaze did not appear suspicious.
