A fire at a warehouse southwest of Pensacola Christian College was mostly extinguished Saturday afternoon, though fire crews were still working to put out hot spots, according to an Escambia County spokesman.

Crews from Escambia County, Santa Rosa County, Pensacola Naval Air Station and the City of Pensacola were called to the fire at the Sunrise Fresh Produce Co. in the 200 block of Amber Street on Friday afternoon and authorities ordered the evacuation in a one-block radius around the blaze after a reported explosion.

One employee was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters initially pulled back from the fire because of the risk of explosion from freon and other chemicals used in refrigeration units inside the warehouse.

The exact cause and amount and cost of damage were still unknown Saturday, Escambia County spokesman Bill Pearson said.

The area has been deemed safe and the State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating, Pearson said.
