TALENT, Ore. (AP) - More than 50 firefighters responded Monday afternoon as a fire destroyed part of a vacant cold storage building near the southern Oregon town of Talent. The fire sent up large columns of smoke.

The Medford Mail Tribune says (http://is.gd/bivJaP) Jackson County Fire District No. 5 Chief Dan Marshall reports that a wooden frame and metal siding portion of the building burned while an adjacent concrete structure was damaged.

Chris Chambers of Ashland Fire & Rescue says fire officials determined that a small amount of ammonia at the site of the three-alarm fire was not a safety hazard.

Oregon highway officials say the fire briefly disrupted traffic on Oregon 99 between Phoenix and Talent.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
