1 Dies, 2 Firefighters Hurt in Connersville Apartment Fire

CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - One resident has died and two firefighters were injured in an apartment fire in Connersville late Tuesday evening.

According to Connersville Fire Chief Troy Tipton, a fire broke out at 11:18 p.m. in the Turtle Creek Apartments, 3600 Western Ave., which is on the north side of Connersville.

The fire started in an apartment on the second floor. It affected 12 apartments.

A man believed to be in his late 30s died. His identity was not immediately released Wednesday morning.

Residents were forced to jump from balconies in order to get to safety. The hallways filled with smoke in seconds.

Two firefighters were injured in the fire. One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation after his mask came off when he pulled the victim out of the apartment. Another firefighter fell off a ladder and landed on his side. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment and were released early Wednesday morning.
