A basement fire in a high-rise building on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago went to a 2-11 alarm, bringing 120 firefighters to the scene. A doorman at the 16-story building reported the fire on Thursday night at 10pm.  When firefighters arrived, they found the fire in the basement.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a storage area in the basement, but had difficulty reaching it.  Smoke from the fire rose through the elevator shafts to the upper floors of the building.  Firefighters went to each floor to check on residents, but found no one who needed medical care.

Fire officials found that they expected residents would be displaced.
