Chicago firefighters battled an extra alarm fire that started in an auto repair shop and quickly spread to two neighboring businesses.

The fire started around 3am and firefighters were still battling the fire four hours later.

The fire ignited in an auto repair shop, sending heavy plumes of smoke east and cut visibility to less than 50 feet in places.

As flames spread to two neighboring businesses, the roof of the auto repair shop collapsed and caught power lines on fire.  The power lines sent sparks showering along the alley.

The cause of the fire and any fire protection were not reported
