Allen Park, MI -- One person was killed and dozens were rescued when a fire broke out at a senior home this morning.
Seven fire departments responded to the fire. They worked to rescue the senior citizens who were trapped inside; there were approximately 30 people rescued.
Twelve people were taken to the hospital and one person died.
Fire Chief Douglas LaFond said, "Most of them were just fine." In response to the death, "It's definitely a tragedy."
LaFond believes the installation of fireproof doors helped save the senior citizens. However, where were the fire sprinklers? The installation of fire sprinklers would have increased the odds for survivors, possibly decreased injuries, and decreased property damage.
