One Person Injured in House Explosion

fires in the newsElgin, IL -- One person was injured and $150k in damages were the result of a house explosion last week.

The Elgin Fire Department responded on September 16 at 10pm to a report of an explosion and subsequent fire.  Fire crews found a resident in the front yard who was then taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit.

The resident said that he had just turned on his furnace for the first time.  It is suspected that there was a gas build up that caused the explosion.
