Chicago, IL -- A three-story apartment building in Garfield Park exploded and engulfed the building in fire on Wednesday night.

Flames were already shooting from the building when firefighters arrived.

Neighbor Carla Owens said, "There was a blast -- a big blast....  We jumped up and came to the window and the whole building was on fire.  Every floor was burning."

The structural integrity of the building was in question, so firefighters weren't able to venture into the building.  As of 5:30am this morning, it was unknown if people were still in the building.

The cause is no yet known.
