Rockingham -- A sprinkler system at Wade Manufacturing kept a cotton fire in check.
The fire was reported at 3:48pm on Wednesday. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from a door on the right side of the building. Upon entering, they found what appeared to be cotton bales swept into a corner on fire.
"What kept it in check was the sprinkler system," said Rockingham Fire Chief Harold Isler.
The firefighters quickly knocked out the party. All damage was confined to the bales. There was no structural damage. There were also no injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
